There are over 400 golf courses in Massachusetts. They range from the exclusive old money Country Club Brookline (1882) in Chestnut Hill to a highly favored course like the Ledges Municipal Course in Holyoke. Perhaps one of the more interesting courses is the one at the Myopia Hunt Club which dates back to 1882. Originally a private fox hunting club for nearsighted people, it evolved into a golf and tennis club. The U.S. Open was held at the club four times between 1898 and 1908. Myopia’s 4th and 9th holes have the distinction of being listed in Golf magazine’s list of top 100 signature holes in the U.S.
